Tulips for the Taking
On an early grocery shopping trip I picked up a pot of yellow tulips to bring to Easter dinner at my brother-in-laws house. My wife decided they were going to open too soon and later bought another pot of tulips for him.
As the first bunch started opening, I decided I would take advantage of the occasion and see what I could produce in my little “studio.” With two LED lights on stand and a couple of black sheets of foam core as a backdrop, I set about photographing these beauties from several different perspectives.
A couple of weeks later, in early May while out scouting migratory birds at the ocean, we detoured to Cider Hills Farms in Amesbury, Massachusetts to check out their flowering fruit trees. Unbeknownst to me, they are also known for the massive tulips beds where you can pay a small fee and cut your own fresh tulips. This is an impressive operation and their “barn turned-retail store” alone is worth the trip.
